Problem
The team ran its work in Trello at around 450 dollars a month. The tool also sat outside the rest of the company's systems — its own login, its own data, no connection to any of the other internal applications.
What we built
Our own boards with the same features: lists, cards, labels, checklists, comments, attachments, due dates, drag and drop, filters, an archive and live collaboration. Sign-in is shared with the rest of the company's tools, and we migrated everything out of the old Trello.

Trello worked for them. The problem was not what it could not do — it was the around 450 dollars leaving every month for a tool that sat apart from everything else the company runs.

So we built the boards straight into the existing ecosystem. Sign-in is shared with the other internal applications, so nobody manages another password, and the data lives in the same database as the rest of the company's.

We did not simplify the feature set. The goal was not "something like Trello" but the same thing — including dragging cards between lists, checklists with a completion percentage, attachments, filters, and seeing a colleague's change appear without reloading the page.

A full migration of the existing content was part of it. The team did not move to an empty tool: on switching day every board, card and piece of history was where they had left it.
